UAMUTEF - Canopic jars

Duamutef - Son of Horus representing the earth element and the east .

All the tops of the jars, representing the four sons of Horus normally face the profile of the vessel, where they can be set down easily to face the east.

But in this instance they all look up towards the heavens with red eyes, while their specific colours represent the corresponding natural element, whether it be water (cobalt blue), fire (sienna), air (Turquoise blue) or the earth (natural terracotta). Although all the wax seals under the lids on these jars have been left intact, the contents are thought to be nothing more than ash or dust;

an assumption made on the results of X-ray and ultrasound examination. The Egyptian authorities did not want the jars opened due to the fuss over the outbreak of the strange illness and rumors of a ridiculous curse. Keep the lid on it all was and still is the final decision.
